Title: Empathic Typography
Presented: Design Incubation / College Art Association Annual 2018 Conference Los Angeles
Role: Conference Presenter/Art Director/Creative Director
Form: Double sided posters
Abstract: “…In my Experimental Typography Class, students are required to photograph the typographic signage/markings of an unknown neighborhood. For many, this may have been the first time visiting a neighborhood/culture significantly different from their own. Through typography only, the students designed a double-sided poster that communicates the culture and experience of that place. They come to understand how typography alone can reflect the ethnicity, culture, and socio-economic structure of a neighborhood.”

Title: The False Premise of a Homogenous Curriculum
Abstract Printed: National Conference on the Beginning Design Student / 2018
Role: Art Director/Creative Director
Form: Editorial
Abstract: “…As beginning design educators, we must try to develop curriculum that is heterogeneous and unifies all of our students while celebrating their differences. Courses that introduce beginning students to the fundamentals of design are necessary so each student can understand and speak the same language of design. These courses should offer projects that foster the diversity of the class and showcase the unique talent and contribution each student may have. Creating classes where students feel engaged and motivated in the subject matter can help them safely explore their ideas and provide an inclusive learning environment.”

Form: Conference Presentation
Abstract: “…The AIGA in its "Designer of 2015 Competencies" lists the "ability to collaborate productively in large interdisciplinary teams" as one of the skills designers will have to retain to be relevant at their job. Design education that is wide-ranging and holistic can profoundly enhance student experience. This method of design education will directly affect their problem solving skills giving them an intellectually strategic approach to their work. This paper addresses the need for liberal arts and social sciences into graphic design pedagogy.”
